Bossier Animal Shelter Adoption Fees Waived September 16-18

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KSLA) – Bossier City Animal Services (BCAS) and the Best Friends Network are teaming up for National Adoption Weekend to help address the growing shelter crisis.

From September 16-18, pet adoption fees will be waived for all pets at BCAS, located at 3217 Old Shed Rd. next to Tinsley Park. This event is intended to help address the overcrowded shelter crisis currently occurring across America. BCAS and the Best Friends Network work in Bossier City with the intention of saving pets’ lives and encouraging people to adopt their next pet rather than buy.

“This weekend, September 16, 17 and 18, Bossier City Animal Services is teaming up with Best Friends Animal Society to bring happiness home! We have room to house about 170 animals,” said Shari Wood, superintendent of animal services. “We currently have 205 in our system with a handful in foster homes and have to turn away multiple animals each day due to lack of space. With local and national animal shelters filled to the brim and the need for shelter growing every day, Bossier City Animal Services invites everyone to come see, visit and adopt your next fur baby at no cost.

Nationwide, new data released shows U.S. shelters have seen increased animal intakes and decreased adoptions, combined with staffing shortages, fewer volunteers and fewer adoption events. that have caused this growing crisis.

“We have too many long-term residents, with nine dogs and 25 cats who have been with us from 13 weeks to over a year. Every one of these long-term residents is at risk of being euthanized when we have to make room for other animals, just because they’ve been here so long,” said Kari Wood of BCAS. “It is imperative that we immediately find accommodation for these long-term residents! We do NOT want to have to euthanize these awesome dogs and cats! »
