KENOSHA, Wisconsin. – Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department thanks Harris Pet Hospital in Salem for the care and attention he gave to K-9 Riggs after he was shot down while on duty on October 21.

Officials said deputies were called to a gas station at the corner of State Highway 50 and US 45 to try to locate a stolen vehicle believed to have been involved in a homicide in Chicago.
According to Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth, three MPs carried out a high-risk traffic stop, ordering the suspect to put his hands up. The suspect did not follow these orders and ran away. MPs were heard on body camera video yelling at the suspect to drop his gun.

At one point, K-9 Riggs was freed and captured the suspect just before running off State Highway 50 – with the suspect still carrying a gun. Riggs took the suspect to the ground. Unfortunately, Riggs suffered a gunshot wound to the forehead.
