A NEW exotic pet shop in Bournemouth opened for the first time last week.
Owner Reece James, 28, of Kinson is “over the moon” with his new store.
Reece has always had an interest in reptiles and kept them in his garage before recently making the decision to take the plunge and open his own shop.
The shop provides snakes, tarantulas, lizards, chelonians, reptile supplies, live foods, frozen foods and more.
The store currently sells the longest species of snake in the world, the reticulated python.
The snake is currently nine months old, Reece believes it will “be a monster” as it ages and reaches full size.
Reticulated pythons are native to Southeast Asia and can grow to 31.5 feet, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica. They are not poisonous.
Reece said: “We’ve had a lot of sales already, the snakes have been popular as well as the tarantulas.
“When I was about four I had a lizard and a bearded dragon, ever since it’s been my life I love them.”
Reece added: “I live just around the corner and still wanted to open a shop here because I love the area, there are lots of other reptile enthusiasts around.”
“I’m just glad the store is up and running.
“The shop is already getting great feedback, I’m really happy with how the opening went.
“In a few years I might consider moving to a bigger site so I can store bigger and more animals.”
