Pet hospital seeks special exception to open at Whitemarsh Mall

In November 2021, MoreThanTheCurve.com reported that Banfield Pet Hospital had been added to the list of tenants for the Whitemarsh Shopping Center in Conshohocken (Whitemarsh Township).

What we didn’t know at the time was that the business would need a special exception from the Zoning Hearing Board of the Township of Whitemarsh to open there. From Review:

ZHB#2021-61: Banfield Pet Hospital c/o Christopher Roth, 10 Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA; Package #65-00-09997-00-9; Block 001; Unit 001; CRH – Retail – High. The applicant proposes a branch of the Banfield Pet Hospital in the Whitemarsh Shopping Centre. Based on the definitions in Article 116-11., this is considered a “clinic”. A clinic is a
use permitted by special exception in the IN-Institutional district. Applicant is requesting a special exception under 116-104.A.(6)(b) which permits any permitted use in the institutional district by special exception in the CR-H district, in which the mall is located .

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Township of Whitemarsh building.
