Pet shop worker hangs onto speeding car after woman allegedly steals $ 10,000 dog

A pet shop worker was caught on camera hanging from the hood of a fast-moving car as she tried to rescue a stolen puppy on a Texas highway.

Royshana King was arrested last week and charged with aggravated theft involving a deadly weapon in connection with the incident on November 4 last year, according to court documents viewed by the Houston Chronicle.

It happened after Chica, a bulldog puppy worth $ 10,000, was stolen from the Bully Kamp pet store near Aldine in Harris County, the newspaper reported.

Store worker Alize James, 21, ran after the thieves and tried to stop their car, according to KPRC. She was later seen hanging from her hood as the vehicle sped down a Houston freeway, in an incident that was caught on camera by another driver.

James told the broadcaster that a couple visited the store to examine different breeds and chose an exotic $ 10,000 bulldog.

The 21-year-old said she then went upstairs to get papers for a UPS driver and came back down to find the couple had left. Surveillance footage shows the couple exiting the store with the dog in the woman’s arms.

James said she sued them, worried for the well-being of the 7-month-old puppy as he had been operated on a few days earlier and needed medication.

She told the broadcaster, “My mind is focused on her health, obviously I didn’t care about my well-being.”

After chasing the couple to their car, James said she asked them to return the dog to her. Instead, the couple allegedly crashed into her, threatening to run over her, and she instinctively jumped on the hood.

“The next time I heard the gas go off he went very aggressively and he [the bumper] kind of slapped me on the roof of the car, ”she said.

The driver sped through side streets and the Interstate 45 service road for more than a mile, while James clung to the hood, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The woman then rushed out the passenger window, punching and clawing James as she tried to call 911, she told the newspaper. She said they quickly stopped in the middle of traffic and started assaulting her, hitting and scratching her face and head before the man knocked her to the ground.

Jose Garcia, a manager of the store, told the newspaper he had not received any news of the whereabouts of the stolen dog on Tuesday morning.

He said his customers were generally loyal and friendly, but employees felt anxious after the theft. “We’re just trying to get back to normal,” he said.

News week has contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Department and Bully Kamp for comment.
