BREWSTER – The Animal Rescue League of Boston is hosting a special event this weekend to promote the adoption of small pets.
The “Some-Bunny awaits you at Easter!” adopta-thon will take place on Saturday April 9 and Sunday April 10, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. both days. All adoption fees will be waived for small animals at the group’s Brewster location.
Mike DeFina, communications and media relations manager, listed some of the benefits of bringing home pets like birds, rabbits or gerbils.
“Small pets are great if you don’t have a big house or don’t have that much space. They are kept in enclosures, but these little animals are fun and there are so many things you can do with them,” he said.
DeFina said some pet owners use clicker training to teach social creatures like rabbits and guinea pigs to come when called or to sit on command.
“When we adopt an animal, it leaves room for another animal that we care about,” he said.
ARL locations in Boston and Dedham are also participating in the event, which is held in association with the MSPCA, Northeast Animal Shelter, Dakin Human Society and Lowell Humane Society.
