A bakery that sells luxury artisan dog treats is opening a one-stop-shop to help pet owners celebrate their birthdays in style. Original Dog Bakery has stalls in Warrington, Ellesmere Port, Liverpool and recently opened a stall in Shrewsbury.
Shoppers in Cheshire might be familiar with their bright yellow stand from the Golden Square Mall or the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. It might be easy to believe that the delicious pastry is for humans, but in fact, it’s for dogs.
Next week (April 4) they are opening their bakery in South Liverpool to the public, which will cater for all canine birthday needs. The venue, on Spindus Road in Speke, will offer dog-friendly birthday cakes, boxes of treats and desserts, perfect for dogs of all sizes.

The bakery has been selling donuts, brownies, popcorn and cookies for about two years. The treats, in addition to being delicious for dogs, are also loaded with natural and organic ingredients to keep them healthy.
The family business was born in Liverpool during the national lockdown in 2020. It is owned by Daniel Carroll, 40, and his wife Caitlin Carroll, 35, and Eilish Clarke, 29.
Daniel told CheshireLive that dogs have always been an important part of his family’s life. He said: “We took a look at the dog treats market and thought we could have an impact on this one. We have dogs in the family and have been cooking for them for a few years.
“We have family and friends who have lots of dogs, they were pretty much the testers at first. We can get to know likes and dislikes. Of course, every dog is different so they have their own flavors.
They’ve released flavors that humans will be familiar with, like Red Velvet Brownies, Peanut Butter Donuts, Confetti Birthday Cakes, and Honey Walnut Brownies. But, their treats have a dog-friendly twist as they are made with natural and organic ingredients with no added salt or sugar.
They use organic carob, which is a non-toxic alternative to chocolate, creating Carob Mint Brownies and Carob Peanut Butter Cookies. The bakery also uses turmeric, which Daniel says helps fight inflammation and is great for heart health.
The resounding favorite of fluffy customers is “anything with bacon.” Daniel said, “We sell out almost every day at some locations which is great. Bacon is usually the first to sell and customers are constantly asking for more bacon products. »
After selling primarily online during the pandemic, their first official in-person stand was at Liverpool One in June 2021, quickly followed by a stand at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet in August 2021.
After a busy Christmas where the “bakery was running all day every day”, they unveiled a stand at Golden Square shopping center in Warrington in January 2022. This month they opened their final stand at the Darwin Center in Shrewsbury.
Daniel said: “In the first few months, especially at Liverpool One, people would look around and say, ‘Is this really for the dogs? But as the brand grows and they follow us on social media, it gets a little easier.
“People always come to try to buy some for their husbands or children. We explain that it looks like it’s for humans but it’s for dogs. It’s hilarious some of the reactions.
Since opening, The Original Dog Bakery has built a loyal fanbase of human and canine fans. Daniel said, “Every site we open, we’re just overwhelmed by how cute and beautiful it all is. Sometimes you hear bad stories in retail, but we only get compliments. We have supporters who have supported us since day one.
The ever-growing clientele encouraged the team to open its anniversary bakery. Daniel explained: “We have the head office and the bakery where it all happens, and a lot of customers say, ‘Can you open your South Liverpool bakery, we don’t necessarily want to go to Liverpool and pay for parking.’
“So from Monday next week we will be open. Our front door will be open at 10am.
“I’m going to make it a birthday cake destination, so we’re going to specialize in gifts for their birthday. A whole new line of products is coming out for large dogs, small dogs, cakes and treat boxes of different sizes as well as our everyday stuff.
The dream destination for dogs is equipped with a photo wall, perfect for taking Instagram photos of the boy or girl whose birthday it is.
Daniel continued: “We’re excited to open and we’ll be testing it weekly and seeing what the customer wants and how we can develop it before the summer.”
The Original Dog Bakery sells movie treats, Gotcha Day baked goods and has now launched its Easter range. The selection, which will also be sold at their Speke Bakery, offers a “fun twist” on their usual products, including chick-shaped donuts, Easter egg cookies and carrot cake. Dog owners don’t have to leave their fluffy friends out of delicious Easter fun this year.
